I think truth re: publisher economics & reader expectations. There may also be a natural ideal range for length in various media… Short books exist; why do I often not prefer them? Gets at some good q's about measuring quality as well! I may need to do a thread / blog post :)

No idea if there's an existing term for what describes (fantasy where our 'real world' is diegetic)…maybe we should invent one! Also this "writing genres" list is great: E.g.: Speculative cross-genre fiction Ergodic literature Metafiction

And also new genres & subgenres emerging and evolving all the time, for example "climate fiction" or any of at least a dozen "cyberpunk derivatives".

Stories are hard to categorize; genres are hard to define! This reminds me of a discussion on definitions of sci-fi…turns out there are *many* definitions of the genre, even a whole Wikipedia page for it.

I have done this with many many thousands of books in my lifetime and, yet, my home still looks like a well-stocked library.

This is a really good point. My dream business sells only digital products. Theoretically infinite margins are a beautiful thing indeed. One other thing helpful for a physical product biz: as few variations as possible. Make *one thing* really well.

Also, almost too simple to mention but realized kind of important for me: Have 2 windows open at a time to toggle between, so any given tab never more than a keystroke + click away…allows for 50-ish available at a quick glance & past that I find I'm due for some pruning anyway

Well shit I suppose this is partly my fault for perpetually holding off on the upgrade to Pocket Premium 😞

I use Workona for managing a handful of big tab groups (ostensibly thematic but always messily bleeds over w/ random new stuff) Save as much as possible to Pocket (to read) or Pinboard (tagged reference) Once every five years do this lol:

A few things I'd love to teach: -Personal Librarianship: how to read & curate your book lists effectively -Hip-Hop Poetics & Constraints: an Oulipian lyricism workshop! -Business for Creators: help indie creators build sustainable revenue, w/ patronage, memberships, etc.

If you had to host a 'course' for a small, online group (~30 people), what would *you* help people out with? 🤔
