Thats a myth. Lots of people thought he would win. I wrote that he'd likely win in a very close race, which is what happened. Everyone I know in St Louis thought he had a real shot at winning, whether they liked him or not (most didn't like him at all)

I wrote an article in Sept 2016 about why I thought it was happening, which has largely been proven right

Anyone interested in Trump's early white collar crime years can read the work of Wayne Barrett, , or Spy magazine, which documented it all in real time. Then ask why 1) no one was arrested earlier 2) the media of 2016 wouldn't touch these archived materials 🤔

The other thing to note (as you already know, but this is for others) is that Kremlin operative tactics are the same tactics Trump & co always used anyway: blackmail, bribes, threats. Roy Cohn tactics, mafia tactics. This was a natural synergy and they built off each other.

. makes a great point along this line in this week's podcast -- these criminal GOP characters have never been truly, fully punished, which is why we are fated to suffer again to this very day with William Barr, Oliver North and others. History repeats.

Yes, I think it's possible, but this industry is in shambles, so it's not easy. I wrote in my book that "a false meritocracy breeds mediocrity" and unfortunately we see the repercussions of that today. On we called it "The Chuck Todd Industrial Complex" 😉

On : Joy: Is the Occam's razor explanation that Russia wanted sanctions dropped to make money? Me: Democracy is slitting its wrists on Occam's razor here. Of course oligarchs and billionaires want sanctions dropped. This wasn't hard to figure out! It happened in the open!

I was on south Florida radio twice last month, and on NPR more times than I can count. Everyone's been cool, but I don't evaluate my life or worth (or anyone's worth) by those metrics. Prestige means nothing to me; creative freedom and an honest living means everything.

St Louis local news has had me on a lot; I've done most TV and radio outlets, and my book is listed in the "best-of" section of the Post-Dispatch this week. I've got no complaints about how local media has treated me or my work.

I've written for the NYT, had offers from WaPo, and turned them down because they pay badly and I'm busy writing a new book and running my podcast. I appreciate everyone's interest but my focus is on doing good work, keeping my freedom, and paying my bills -- and I do it my way

Always remember that while this "Enemy of the People" thing is shocking and disturbing to reporters in the States, that sentiment is ending and destroying the lives of journalists across the globe
