I love milk recording plus info, both current and historical, some of the late calvers maybe more profitable, info is power,u pay for the milking recording, but itโ€™s the interpretation of the results that matter most

Agreed just mate your best genetics to the best genetics, anything else provided you have choice must b terminal, always room for improvement with slight adjustment, sexed Iโ€™m now convinced is def the way forward.

Only if those hfrs were selected due to the dams performance, remember thereโ€™s heifers and heifers, at least sexed in a MA cow should have reliable stats to work on

Yes agreed, even in a settled herd the difference in the performance of the top and bottom quartile of the herd ranges from 150-250kgms, I see this most years,an efficient non โ€˜frillyโ€™ herd is very realistic

Yes unfortunately this is very common, multiple factors at play,if we do nothing we can just accept the empty rate,an early scan takes out the guesswork and gets you and the cow back on track, very important to get those replacements born ASAP for future development

I am awaiting my 1st sexed calves in 3wks time,59 purchased straws,36 in calf, have ordered 120 straws for this oct, wagyu to the poorest is just as NB as mating from the best, takes 4seasons to perfect a herd

Once a cow is over 28days a viable scan can b achieved, whatโ€™s the point in waiting till day 42 r 63 for the cow to show heat,or a โ€˜phantomโ€™ pregnancy which results in an empty, this can be avoided

Our situations are different in that I was inheriting poor days in milk every 3yrs,now my own herd sorted here over 2seasons there is little to manipulate, selling surplus hfrs has added hugely to the milk cheque๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„

Glad the scanning,pg,inseminate is working well David, most economic and effective way to compact calve, reduce empties and most importantly create the competition within the herd, the ability to cull those who donโ€™t belong in the herd will become ur favourite job. Congrats

The โ€˜earlyโ€™ scan is about opportunity, the quicker u identify an issue the greater the chance of pregnancy,I would never feel nervous of lost embryo if the job is done properly #๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„
