At an airport I saw a couple next to me talking. One took the other’s glasses off and cleaned them and gently put them back on her face, all while she continued talking, as if this was a normal state of affairs. Love is having someone to clean your glasses.

"Melancholy" by Edgar Degas. Degas (1834–1917) battled with depression all his life and even with his energetic paintings of ballet dancers there is a contemplative detachment. In later life became disabled by depression and blindness.
