Working on raymarched hands in VR, seeing how UI might be directly incorporated into / emerge from the body Super satisfying how grabbed objects fuse with the body — mirrors a bit how we mentally assimilate tools into our body schemata

Not sure if you’ve seen it already, but Google’s pushing for a Web page lifecycle API similar to that of mobile apps:

Growing up within a worldview of "apps" and "dev tools" constrains people to see everything in those terms. It can take tremendous unlearning to even be able to /see/ an "authoring is always on" system for what it is.

I was reading this research paper yesterday that's showing the iPad Pro as one of the few modern computing device they tested that can equal the Apple IIe in terms of low UI latency.

Take that masked animated noise, pipe it into the U texCoord of a (clamped) gradient texture, and you get sweet cleansing TOON FIRE. I usually prefer to use step cutoffs to have more control in the editor, but gradients are so neat and tidy it's hard to resist.

You take that animated noise, add and then multiply a mask in on top, you get a solid base for FLAMES. Simple, delicious and easy to make at home. Nothing better than a quick, tasty fire shader to start your day.

Panning copies of noise at different speeds and scales, and multiplying it against itself, is the basis of 90% of my shaders. It's the Mother Sauce of tasty shaders. Here's a "Swiss Cheese" that's the start of Toon Fire. Look at that perfect loop. A thing of beauty.
