We invented the internet, so everyone could have free access to knowledge. What kind of fucking hacker demands thousands of dollars for knowledge. It disgusts me. And now I'm going to take a break from twitter because I'm really upset right now.

Nothing stops cons from uploading recordings of talks. But most cash out on the "exclusivity of knowledge", knowledge that is only available by paying thousands of dollars. How is that not gatekeeping?

If you don't have the money to be up to date with the "latest of the latest" in this industry by attending cons and trainings, you can't compete. I know this for a fact. It's the same thing as "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer". People don't get equal chances.

You're blocking potential talent from entering this industry by gate keeping knowledge behind sky-high prices. Talent that could do great things but is never given a chance because of it. It's wrong, it's just fucking wrong.

Also, you can fucking unfollow me if you don't agree. I can't stand the elitism in this industry. Share your fucking knowledge and don't make an industry out of it. I know what it is like trying to make it in this industry only having the scraps of knowledge you folks throw at us

If you want to compete as a bughunter at the highest level, you need to have access to "the latest" and you don't have that access unless you have money. And that's inherently wrong. It keeps folks from being able to compete.

God, this made me moody. Everyone should have equal chances. If a large pool of knowledge is only accessible for a happy few then that's just wrong. It puts the rest of us at a disadvantage. It shouldn't be like that. No matter the reasons.

You do not need to charge thousands of dollars for a fucking training. There would be enough people willing to attend those classes if the prices were lower. This is industry is just sick.

One day I'm going to teach disadvantaged folks for free. Just to give this industry the middle finger.

You don't need to charge thousands of dollars for trainings and cons. It's just gatekeeping, nothing else. I know how hard it is to get into this industry, I had nothing.. no degrees, no mentors. It's incredibly hard, even with the resources that are available.

Then make those trainings accessible to everyone at lower prices. They cost thousands of dollars. It's a fucking joke. This entire industry is a fucking joke.

Knowledge shouldn't be a commodity, it's way too important for that. I'm not ever going to change my mind on that and I apologize if this sounds harsh or offends people. Everyone should be given equal chances, not just those with money.

I will never charge people money for the stuff I know. Never. This industry has a problem with gatekeeping knowledge, and there is no excuse for that. Everyone should be given equal chances to learn.

If your business model is selling knowledge to the privileged, then maybe reconsider your business model. twitter.com/tim2040/status…

There are some really good talks about niche subjects that you can only find vague slides about if lucky. It really sucks sometimes. Some really good researchers only share their knowledge in the conference circuit.. but that's not very accessible for most of us.

In a competitive arena like vuln research where you always need to be on top of your game, this is a huge disadvantage. Those at the top get better, those at the bottom struggle to keep up.

I really wish more infosec conferences would upload recordings of their talks. These conferences are not affordable at all for most of us. The result is that those in privileged positions have first-hand access to knowledge while the rest of us lag behind.

After dropping out of highschool I once broke down crying in public at a train station, I just wanted to throw myself infront of a train. I didn't see a future anymore. I got lucky. Some people never leave that place of darkness. Some days I hate this fucking world.
