Sammi Leigh Melville
Author of The Fields, filmmaker, improviser. She/her. I love writing fiction to tell universal truths, so I guess that makes me a truthful liar. No DMs please.

I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine having to go through this.

I mean, if bears get to get fat and sleep all the time, why can't we? 😊

That happens to me sometimes, too! Unless it's someone I'm very comfortable with. But yeah, it's always fun when you're talking to a stranger and they're fully engaged with the conversation and all you can think is "where do I put my arms while talking?!" or something like that.

I realized yesterday that if there's four people or less in a conversation, I can usually add to it, but if there's more than that, I play spectator. I like to play spectator, because I get to know people a lot from it, but then I wonder if people think I'm being awkward. 🤷‍♀

Today has already been a very stressful day, but I remain hopeful that the rest of the day will calm the fuck down.

Well, as usual, I like to run my mental health into the ground before taking care of it. I'm going to take another break from social media. I'll see you all in a week or so! Don't get too crazy without me, I wouldn't want to miss the fun.

They all came from the field of mud at the center of the village, and unearth others like they were once unearthed. But Mukisa is not mud-born, and for that she is scorned...

Welp. Today has been an absolute disaster. I'm so glad I'm a person.

Haha. The age-old question of "does research matter for story?"

Hey Twitter, had this conversation the yesterday, and now I'm curious... Is it common knowledge that not all voodoo dolls/poppets are meant for harm?

Of course writers should be allowed to write in the opposite gender. Half of literature wouldn't exist if we didn't allow that.

Marina is going to make this day better for me. Her, and the hope that I can just fake being sick and not do the rest of my required things today.

Ah, yes. It's not even noon and I've managed to drop my self-confidence to sub-zero levels.

I miss African vernacular so much. I was reminded of that while at the market today, talking to one of the vendors, and now I wish I had enough money to travel. Get out of this country, listen to foreign vernaculars, drink in foreign culture, learn a thing or two about the world.

😂 Then with or without the J, your name is still pretty cool. Try it both ways, see which you like better!

Or "steff-in"! Damn it. I am in a world of pronunciation turmoil.

I never thought about this, and feel silly, but... Do you pronounce your first name "stee-vin" or "steh-fahn"? If it's the former, you could go either way, but if it's the latter, definitely keep the J. Sorry I stare at your name all the time and don't know how to pronounce it.
