Montreal climate strike was one of the most racist protest spaces Iโ€™ve ever been in. Was intentionally pushed, received nonstop racial remarks like โ€œits not just your land,โ€ and had to fight for space the entire time. This is what happens when you white-wash climate justice.

Revisiting this to provide more context. Despite the fact the front of the march was supposedly a space for indigenous peoples, white people were aggressively trying to push past the entire time. Many became defensive or violent when reminded to respect indigenous space.

One man in particular was told to walk behind me to leave space for indigenous people and reacted by singling me out and trying to invade my space for the next hour. I looked back several times and he had my regalia in his hands. Another friend had her braids grabbed throughout.

When we finally got to the main stage we requested to take 5 minutes to sing the womanโ€™s warrior in honour of missing and murdered indigenous women targeted by extractive industry and climate change. We were told this would break apart their organizing coalition.

A climate event that insists prayers for our MMIWG2S would somehow destroy organizations or diminish the work of climate justice makes me question who that work is really for

but we don't do that no more we give them money they don't have to pay certain taxes and they can fish whatever. Their culture is dying now because they don't accept other people. Like how whites didn't accept black people being citizens at first.

Sorry that this happened. It is not right!!! You and your people and other First Nation people are kiatiakitanga of Canada. Tangata Whenua/Indigenous People must be front and centre in all climate movements throughout the world or we are wasting our time.
