In this week's Expert Witness at Noisey, alt-rap continues to live if not exactly thrive, as it tends to against all what's-trending clickbait folderol, with two albums by ex-kids whose latest albums, how about that, improve on their previous ones.

Reminded me of half-forgotten favorites from Fannypack to Okkervil River, highlighted the third-best track on Lewis & Stampfel's Bandcamp-only gem (yay "Indie Bands on Tour"), and made me swear to pull out the Soulja Boy debut.

I wonder what will resonate more with the Democratic base -- Joe Biden's wistful love of Dick Cheney and firm belief that Mitch McConnell will work across the aisle because of something something, or Elizabeth Warren's progressive policies and middle finger to Fox News? Hmmmmmm.

RIP Susan Springfield of the pioneering, mostly female Erasers. Not only did she have the politics/feminism few CBGBs artists actually articulated, she went on to become a human rights lawyer and !!! judge.

Deliberately knotty or consciously simplistic, punk-folk strummers or avantish formalists, four women's bands transmute their anger and unease into music in this week's Expert Witness at Noisey!

Well, er, Google sez almost a hundred million, which strikes me as overly optimistic but not insane. Email me privately and I can give you Gary Giddins's contact info. Not here in the hivemind, however.

I could say this week's Expert Witness honors four white singer-songwriters over 60, three of whom I know well enough to have had dinner with. But I'm aware that some might say it's about the one I shook hands with once and everybody else.

Biden has boldly announced that he is a “union man,” which may win him union endorsements and money. But only 11% of American workers are in unions and unions have been fairly supine for years. We need candidates who stand up for the rights and dignity of all working people.

I've got it in my iTunes but am hopeless at sending MP3s to people. Amazon has one of those absurdly cheap European multi-CD sets on the 5 Royales for 11 bucks. They were fucking great. I say buy the whole thing. I just bought eight Bud Powell albums unheard for not much more.

I'm no historian, but why does this Twitter game of ranking Barr among history's worst AGs leave out W's Alberto Gonzales? Cos he was such a nothing he didn't have the oomph to be as evil as Palmer or Mitchell, which I grant?
