I mean OCLC is actively trying to get a program up to aggregate patron activity data from various services and vendor platforms your library uses and some folks are already on board. Moreover OCLC says data collection practice isn’t changing, they’ll just get a slice too… so…

librarians are not great at negotiating this stuff or just down with the “trade data for convenience” so MAYBE your borrowing records and internet use there are private. And let’s not get into academics/RA21. Signed, Someone who would love us to live up to the game we talk

So maybe the library SHOULD update its policy and let you know exactly who gets what data about you and what they’ve agreed to not do and not agreed to not do with it.

I know it’s nice to rest on our vocational awe but libraries are actually pretty terrible at privacy that DOESN’T involve your physical item borrowing history.
