If you’re a Hill staffer, and your office employee handbook has some troubling policies (like Klobuchar’s paid leave one), please let me know. DMs are open.

This is a very smart piece on Bernie Sanders’ tough road to the nomination. His primary challenge: black voters in general—especially over 30, the ones who vote in significant numbers. Aunties, mamas and grandmamas.

I think it’s normal that they don’t have it all figured out, yet. That they feel it needs to be done is a major step. How to get there is something we can figure out between now and November 2020

The right keeps asking for stuff that is politically impossible, and it remains politically impossible until it isn't, and they've been getting a lot of it. Shifting the window is how we get there.

Please don’t use my father to suggest or assert that respectability cures racism. The white supremacy affirming racist discriminates against Black bodies whether the bodies are in sharp suits or in sagging pants. And my father was assassinated while dressed respectably.

I’ll say it again - one of the reasons that people with breasts and vulvas know so little about how they work and how to keep them healthy and what’s normal and abnormal, is because even the most casual discussion about our bodies is seen as pornographic.

It’s OK to be curious about what a reparations plan for black people looks like, but the pessimism I see ignores how much progress we’ve made in making the subject a talking point in presidential politics. This really is a big deal, so don’t downplay it; hold candidates to it.

Politicians don’t have 100 percent of their platforms figured out this early in the race. That’s not how US presidential campaigns work. If Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and Castro want reparations, they’ll have time to outline what that looks Iike.

For those dismissing 2020 candidates’ calls for reparations as just words, consider how powerful words are. Consider that two years ago, reparations was deemed “unrealistic.” It’s OK that candidates don’t have it all figured out. That they want reparations is extraordinary.

I interviewed Julián Castro recently. He called to reparations for black people and addressed whether Donald Trump is racist. Check out our interview here:
