Came across blog, the last two sentences of his About Me caught my eye in particular: "Writing regularly helps me think. If I write enough, I might actually write something valuable for others." Love it. And the ML Flask/Heroku tutorial looks interesting as well.

The fastest way to learn something is to have skin in the game. One wat to do this is getting a job outside your comfort zone (or joining a startup). Learn or fail. Learning by teaching is also effective since you risk reputational cost if you don't understand the material.

Canadian developers don’t fix errors. They fix eh-rors

Using APIs as a Canadian: Invalid request: Received unknown parameter: end_behaviour. Did you mean end_behavior?

5/ Giving the mentor skin in the game through an ISA also helps to encourage more meaningful interactions and reduces the churn that many informal mentorships succumb to.

4/ Part of the value of is formalizing that interaction and reducing the awkwardness. Giving mentees/mentors without a pre-existing network a chance at finding a mentor or mentee.

3/ But it's very awkward to ask for that kind of support. It's also very awkward to offer and maintain that kind of support. Informal mentorship is great when it happens, but not everyone has the network and the social courage to ask.

2/ This shouldn't be too surprising. Finding your first job or switching careers can be one of the most stressful parts of your life. Having someone experienced to support you through that journey goes a long way.

1/ Something I hear from many of our mentors and mentees (and my experience mentoring supports this) is that a lot of the value that our mentors provide is emotional support.
