Watching NEC’s proto fly gives me the same queasy-but-excited feeling as I had when meeting Paul and seeing back in the 80’s in Davis CA. (Cant remember my S/N but still anxiously awaiting delivery...)

The sole community within which it resonated deeply was that of the vision-impaired. Their passion for the product told us that what we did was good and right, but it was insufficient to achieve enough momentum to counter the strong network effects of pure text messaging.

Now imagine that this is embedded in your AirPod case, and by waving your hand outside your pocket or purse you could use one of ~5 key gestures to quietly navigate the browser/sites. It would be transformational.

Just begin by asking the question “if audio were the *only* way to use [amazon,lyft,slack,...] and you used it 100+ times a day, - what would the browser sound like? - what would the core audio and gesture based universal navigators be? - what are emergent site nav conventions?

I have thought about this for almost 15 years, and chat with was perhaps most interesting. Talko just served to convince me even more that there is a passionate vision-impaired community who knows quite a bit more about how to develop a “high perf UX” than we do.

As challenging as it is to be subject to ADA for the vision-impaired, I strongly believe that the Curb-Cut Effect could transform the web into one in which we could all navigate & transact with just our AirPods. Where’s the Bootstrap toolkit for audio?

How do I type control keys (into remote emacs) using the Chrome Remote Desktop web app now that the desktop app has been killed? The browser seems to intercept control keys. This is kind-of fundamental, so I must be missing something obvious. ?

As early as Fernando Flores's Coordinator, we learned to view email as the distributed implementation of a very specific set of social contracts. Once any social tool is ubiquitously-embraced, breach those contracts at your peril & the community's peril.

This is huge news for the embedded community, where the choice has been either a light “maker IDE” sans debugging, a vendor specific IDE, or an $8k/seat pro IDE. Thanks Martin and

Vignette’s a very useful, well-designed app. It’s a great reminder of why I love software: sometimes scratching your own itch can also bring a bit of joy to others. Congrats

By way of contrast to Chernobyl, here’s Fukushima. Zoomin, zoom out. Compare it to where you live.
