1/2 To celebrate we thought we'd highlight the work of a woman who wrote about women. Agnes Strickland's The Lives of the Queens of England was published between 1840 & 1848 in 8 volumes and bought her fame and celebrity.

Our thanks to the regular library user who chose to celebrate by bringing chocolates to the Reference Library staff. His thoughtfulness is much appreciated by our all female front-line team!

A reminder: Gardeners World is back tonight. 8.30. BBC2. Carol visits Bressingham and celebrates conifers, I prune and plant and stuff. There is a great little seaside garden. The sun shines. Nigel & Nell too. Think that covers every eventuality.

If you saw about the photographer , who evocatively captured rural life in Devon with his camera, you may be interested in reading our blog piece all about his father .

Lovely evening at the opening of at - artists have worked with academics to create visual interpretations of their findings. I was lucky to be paired with Dr Sharron Frood and draw from her work with AIDS orphans in South Africa.

We had a couple of homeless chaps having fisticuffs this week. Elaine had to threaten to call the cops to get them to stop.

"It is that a lot of little black marks on paper can bring a person who died nearly two hundred years ago into your room: bring him so close that you know him much better than you would have known him if you met him in the flesh. It is extraordinary and enlarging." Diana Athill

Here's a poem from a couple of years ago, though moons and blue Mondays are still current, and always will be.
