It provides zero video signal, though, so if you could make a VNC-proxy that directed video requests to your capture card, and keystrokes and mouse movements to USaBUSe, you’d be golden.

Would be entertained by a mashup of your hdmi signal, and USaBUSe, which (amongst other things) is a USB dongle with a WiFi interface, that enumerates as a keyboard and mouse, and accepts VNC clients to emit keystrokes and mouse movements.

Yeah, for sure. Dunno if they got that far before being busted, my guess is that they did because I don’t honestly expect .gov.za IT to be so on the ball as to detect that sort of activity. (Unsanctioned 🙄) fraud may have triggered some alarm bells, though.
