It was, ironically given the destruction it wreaked, an eta of intense optimism about the future. Out with the old, literally.

the other day my project team had a presentation by one of our historic preservationists that would have had you in a glass case of emotion; the courthouse, the arcade; hell even some of the modernist stuff that replaced the old stuff is gone or got reclad in faux-trad garbage

tbh Portland is almost useless as a case-study because of its quirky, involved community and Oregon's hella racist past which insulated it from the prototypical problems of white flight

shame on the editors who keep booking him to write about trans stuff tbh. let him prognosticate on twitter, but no need to give him a legitimizing platform

maybe at a certain point (10k/sq mi or something like that) the lack of trees or one-way config doesn't matter but for lower density places maybe that stuff becomes mission critical

I wonder how much the one-ways hurt Indy. It's really hard to make them pleasant for people walking. Does a one-way handicap your density so that a successful urban village takes 7500/sq mi to succeed where a two-way needs 5k? Same thing for streets without trees and/or buffers.

That guy has some serious issues. I agree with an occasional take here and there (his weird obsession with trans folk is troubling) but for a guy who gets all up in arms about people getting butthurt he sure seems prone to being....butthurt

I mean, yes. But even in places with enough density (say, 5k ppl per sq mile, like HMP, Old Northside, parts of MK) we can't sustain more than a few businesses. It's worrying. 5k/sq. mile is, like, all of Portland! & there's a restaurant for everyone in town* (*stat not verified)

though we don't really need sneckdowns here I can plainly tell you that we don't need all 73 lanes on Delaware

what's with the restaurant/retail scene volatility in Indy? it's wild how many are closing in rebounding, stable, and even established neighborhoods. it's going to be hard to rebuild the city if small retail businesses can't survive

They are very nice for faux traditional; in fact better than most I’ve seen anywhere. And they replaced the *back ass side* of a parking lot what on earth is causing people heartburn

Twitter style guide would have allowed for a “this ain’t it chief” variant as well but this is still definitely prime “my guy” territory
