Still, isn’t exposing corruption potentially in the national interest? I realize many will LOL at this, but @AlanDersh’s argument doesn’t require mixed motive be 50-50.
1% conscious/national interest motive is sufficient.

My grandfather had the same experience when he immigrated from Germany after WW2.
He had very little, and the YMCA made him feel at home.
My father (who has never stepped foot in a YMCA) still donates to this day. I do too.

As someone who regularly sends cold emails, “Thank you. It’s not a fit.” is just a more verbose version of “Unsubscribe”. Same difference, no offense taken.
Decline with reason seems like a great option until you’re the person that has to do it at scale.
