Great! This is insightful. I'm currently without my computer, but I hope to do some research for now.

I'm going to take a look a few common Lao fonts then. I assume it would likely be similar to Thai as well, correct? Is there information related to these questions for Thai?

Some Questions: How should I approach metrics for Lao? Are there standards or recommendations? Or are they dependent on the particular design? How should Lao compare with Latin? Are there general principles so that Lao and Latin work well together?

Lao Signs: Here are some interesting Lao signs. I'm using them to help me as I design useful Lao display fonts. Have a Lao sign you want to contribute? Let me know and I can add you. Feel free to comment on them too. Enjoy!

Metfone Cambodia does decent. $5/month, works while driving walking tractors in rice paddies. Outages are rarely scheduled, but if it goes down, doesn't go down that much! I do hope they fix that and compensate for the downtime.

There could be issues though, and I think we should all watch carefully how it performs. I think support for minority languages needs to be addressed too, as that makes matters more complex.

I think when they enabled Harfbuzz support for Lao, they turned it on for Khmer, Thai, Lao, and Burmese. I filed a bug report about it recently, as ICU supports decent line-breaking for Lao, and I had suspected they were using ICU (since they are listed as a big user of it).

Firefox has its challenges though. If you aren't using ZWSPs, the word boundary analysis isn't there. I almost always use a Chrome-based browser for work in Lao. You can always use ZWSPs, but it's harder to edit.

Probably not useful, but I suspect the monks at the temple in front of Thad Luang, Vientiane would let you take photos of their work. They are really kind and helpful. I took some photos documenting the murals and paints there, and noticed them hard at work copying manuscripts.

Not the 'same' but similar style. The goal of Kouang Si Waterfall font: a child-friendly display font (titles, headers, large text, etc). I wanted to go for that Lao hand-painted sign look. For my first font, I like where this is going. Not done yet though. Thoughts?

Wow! It's pretty stunning that something used so much is donated to so little. I know some projects do better collecting donations (lots of PR work). Open source works best financially for large corps like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. Monetizing open source is tricky.

, I am working on a font that I would love to include in . I'm working in FontLab 6. Can I send you the font info to review? I want to make sure it's good. I'm new to this, and though I've read the guidelines, I want to make sure I did this right.
