Sir Harold Evans: "What's been forgotten, is how the war started - it started because of Nationalism." Probably the most profound and insightful comment you will hear today.

Hasan Minhaj, on the hate Sikhs endure: Why don't you just go “Hey, I'm not Muslim.” Me: It's just not an option for us to throw another community under the bus. Even if it means things are harder for us, we believe it's the right thing to do.

Excellent article on the legacy of Angela Merkel by ⁦⁩. When progressive reform is stalled, then the hard right comes out fo the woodwork. Or as Harold Wilson said: you’ve got to keep peddling or the bike topples over.

I was in Yemen this time last month. The war strategy of the Saudi-led coalition is not winning & the human suffering is unconscionable. It is no excuse for UK to say it has no role and no influence. It does. And it is meant to be in the lead at the UN Security Council on Yemen.

"Pompeo insists that Trump’s maximum pressure policy will force Iran to accept a better deal...It won’t. Trump may hope to isolate Tehran, but it is Washington that finds itself largely alone." My latest.

How to do an investigation without really trying: 1.) Set artificial deadline 2.) Dictate which witnesses can be interviewed 3.) Decline to follow new leads 4.) Purposefully exclude main witnesses 5.) Declare vindication White House made sure the fix was in from the beginning.

Shame on Myanmar and Aung San Suu Kyi for sentencing two journalists to seven years in prison for committing journalism and investigating their military's genocide against the Rohingya: They are political prisoners, just as Suu Kyi once was.

Left: A frothy latte served in a $400-500/night hotel overlooking Mecca. Right: A Pakistani pilgrim who saved for 43 years, sold his farm, then worked on it - just to afford being able to go to Mecca to perform the Hajj. He died while performing it. Priorities.

One million people who have done no wrong, uprooted from their lives and families, with a 1,000 year-old heritage & tradition stripped from them upon pain of torture and death. But we gotta have our iPhones so... silence.
