On International we celebrate girls’ rights to education. Whether the girl on this Verspronck painting did go to school we don’t know. In fact, we know nothing about her identity. As was the custom of the day, she is portrayed as an adult. 🖼️

For the first time ever, we followed the journey of four paintings from Amsterdam to Delft together with our colleague Anna. Anna is paintings conservator and did technical research into the work of Pieter de Hooch.

Today Leiden is celebrating the liberation from the Spanish in 1574. Here we see Magdalena Moons begging her Spanish fiancé Francisco de Valdez to postpone the storming of Leiden for 1 night. The direction of the wind changed and the city was liberated.
