Quizzing the kids today on the latest fads and new words in school, one of the boys told me that things now “Twend”. Oh, I said, what does “Twend” mean? They looked at me funny, and I realized they were just telling me that things trend.

Another thing Fr. Cantalamessa told us bishops that came back to me today: A smile says, “Welcome the door is open”. When a bishop smiles it opens the doors of the Church.

Noelle knows all the Saints and even noted one of the labels on a statue was wrong in the Church.

Hundreds of children here today for ashes. Each year, I let the children tell me what to give up for Lent. 3 finalists were candy, meat, and coffee - they chose candy this year (last year was coffee; one year was video games)

Rest In Peace, Bishop Elliott Thomas. He was a wonderful man and I had the privilege of living with him for about a year. My last visit with him was when I was serving lunch to the seniors at the Little Sisters of the Poor.

I remember wearing ashes on my forehead in Rome because I went to Mass at a US house for priests. I had no idea that they sprinkle ashes there on the top of the head. I felt a bit humiliated as people looked at me funny all day. Perhaps that is how we should all feel today.

True. He was beatified but he has not been declared a Saint.

How great to see Tony Ciruolo who looks a lot different from when he was an altar server with me from 1995-7. Thanks for saying hello Tony.
