Mahdi Ahmad 26 Jul 13
correct me if I'm wrong, do you believe that the Quran is wrong on the crucifixion of Jesus while the New Testament is right?
Dr (damn right) Reza Aslan 27 Jul 13
Replying to @mahdiahmad
The historical Jesus was almost certainly crucified.
Mahdi Ahmad 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan
the Bible is riddled with contradictions, errors, etc. So how it is a more reliable source than the Quran?
Dr (damn right) Reza Aslan
it's not but bible isn't sole evidence of Jesus crucifixion. Pliny. Tacitus.
Mahdi Ahmad 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan
there has been criticism of Testimonium Flavanium, let alone it not mentioning "Jesus of Nazareth", with Eusebius as a forger..
Mahdi Ahmad 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan
Also, the Testimonium Flavanium was never mentioned by Christian scholars prior to 316 AD as a reference for Jesus' existence.
Mahdi Ahmad 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan
briefly, what's the evidence do you have that the Quranic account of a man *looking like Jesus* being crucified is false?
Dr (damn right) Reza Aslan 27 Jul 13
Replying to @mahdiahmad
there is none
Shibli Zaman 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan @mahdiahmad
Pliny and Tacitus only say execution took place. Even then no details. Doesn't contradict Quran.
Mahdi Ahmad 27 Jul 13
Replying to @shiblizaman @rezaaslan
exactly. Jesus of Nazareth was never mentioned in the text as I mentioned earlier.
James Porter 27 Jul 13
Replying to @rezaaslan
incredibly brilliant, amazing.

Pliny, Tacitus are hearsay. Gospel writers also second hand info. Does Paul provide evidence for historicity? Btw, I'm a big fan.
