If pursuing the arts ever starts to feel pointless or futile, I think of this picture from the Pericles rehearsal room. Today things feel a little brighter than the day before, and some days that's enough. Onwards.

Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre is closing for good. 60yrs of investment, training & serving its community. All profitable in normal times, just needed shortfall funding while closed & it didn’t come in time So sorry to the 86 made redundant, & the locals who loved their theatre

Our Artistic Director Liz was on last night, sharing a video diary of the last few months. Take a look, 17 mins 50 sec in (be warned; there's some footage of a closed TBTL in the rain- got me a tad emotional..). Programme available till 7pm tonight

Imagine an industry that made billions for the treasury. Imagine an industry that made billions for the wider economy. An industry that literally existed to make us better humans, to create connections, to show us how to dream and remind us what dreaming looks and feels like.

Theatre changes lives: I lost my brother when I was 17. Six years later my Mum and I went to see All My Sons in the Cottesloe. In the 3rd act, the mother, Kate lets out a primal cry. The last time I’d heard that sound was when my Mum watched her eldest son’s coffin be lowered 1/2
