IMPORTANT. Donald Trump filed with for 2020 reelection on January 20th, 2017. This is major for several reasons. /1

First and foremost, it is NOT NORMAL. Obama filed for 2012 reelection in April 2011. Incumbent declaring before midterms is unheard of. /2

Several MAJOR implications. If officially a candidate, can use candidate status to curry favor with PACs, businesses, other organizations /3

Because he's acting as Trump the candidate, not Trump the president. Different rules apply. /4

If candidate/president distinction is real then surely orgs can campaign against president and not candidate.

they can and do campaign against policy. They're used to working around this. Just unsure of how administration will abuse.

I'll help. This is Form 99, a misc statement. Form 2 is required to declare candidacy. This form doesn't do that.

as a candidate, he can raise money under guise of being for campaign. As with most things Trump, all about money.

not atypical for elected Prez to keep a committee running, but very early statement of candidacy is an aberration.

no, but odd and unusual. Likely some financial sticky wickets.

IANAL if he can have meetings as "DJT the candidate, not Pres", can't nonprofits similarly speak out against "DJT the Pres, not candidate"?

it says in the form that rqmts are met for form 2 and to accept form 99 in lieu of form 2. 😕

Maybe there is. When did the Bush's sign, or Clinton. Maybe Obama was the exception on this.
