If clipping out dull bits, fiddling with volume and adding fades in and out count as mastering then Audacity is all I've ever used.

Ah, I think we are talking about different contexts. I bow to your vastly superior knowledge of classical but in my scuzzy environs it has well established and understood meaning: (usually) a table full of pedals and whatnot and is a (albeit greatly varied) genre of performance.

Well, yes, but that isn't capturing the 'whatnot'. What if the kit also includes home-made noise makers or toys, a synth, a phone or anything else that is battery run or plugged in? It is tempting to use electronics as a collective noun.

I have seen a food blender used in a performance. I use 'electronics' as a catch all term for a table full of pedals and whatnot but happy to take suggestions for an alternative...
