But he isn't correctly drawing that distinction if he wants to apply anti-discrimination laws to all institutions -- that would make it rather hard to have a clergy.

"I agree that antidiscrimination law should be applied to all institutions" is also a rejection of a concept upheld 9-0 by the Supreme Court quite recently. So Mayor Pete not exactly thinking this through, either.

Many people are saying the fact that the U.S. soccer team scored 4 goals in the first 12 minutes against Cuba, but now haven't scored since, calls into question the sustainability of capitalism. I'm not sure I agree with them but it's a perspective.

Which I certainly was when I crashed out of the Nat Geo geography bee in middle school and told my mom, annoyed that I had gotten some question about religion wrong, something like "they really should call it the Socioeconomic and Geopolitical Bee."

According to Wikipedia, it can also encompass the intersection with human geography. Now, you could be a curmudgeon who thinks "human geography" is not like, geography geography.

Thank you Armenia for such a memorable trip. So blessed to have been baptized along with my babies at Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Armenia's main cathedral which is sometimes referred to as the Vatican of the Armenian Apostolic Church. This church was built in 303 AD.

Wow, this is chilling. The NBA minder shuts down CNN's question here and refuses to let the players answer it. Not only are they acting as China's censors for their employees, they're now bringing China's suppression of the critical press to our shores.

In memory of Mike Uhlmann, remember one of his most important aphorisms: "When evaluating the soundness of any moral proposition, law, rule, or regulation, however popular, to ascertain its true meaning, read it aloud slowly in a German accent."

Yes, this was the shtick for an Entourage episode -- they had to put together a movie deal that day.

Is this a dumb question: Why exactly are there not more priests in South America? Is it a seminary-capacity thing? If there are so many active Catholics who need ministry, why do some number of them not want to be priests?

The stylized fact about America used to be that unemployment differences between regions were transitory, because people moved. And as a paper by Russ and Shambaugh says, this used to be true 2/

I am concerned about low wage growth but the fact that there is a sizeable nexus between Star Wars nerds and people who buy Le Creusets suggest we are a very wealthy society.

I feel like Krugman is trying to divide skilled workers into nerds vs. clerk -- i.e., high-prestige, highly paid (maybe hyper-skilled but I dunno) vs. not. E.g., banks have moved their back offices away from the coasts but not their VPs.
