I am seeing a lot of “violence is not the answer” from politicians who would not even cut the already bloated military budget by 10% to take care of working class and poor people during a global pandemic. Leaving us to rot while you go on vacation seems pretty violent to me.

My university pronounced that spring classes would (almost) all be done in person AND asked for staff and faculty feedback on a very broad furlough policy. Which wellness center course on self-care am I supposed to take to help with this?

If Black women can't sleep soundly in bed without fear of execution, we don't have a democracy to be saved. We have the work of creating a democracy.

As a Black Woman, I deserve to go home & feel safe, and find respite from the country that does not protect me and my family. If we cannot jog, if we cannot drive, if we cannot eat, play, breathe in public w/o suspicion. I deserve to be safe in my home!

People really don’t know how the existing government functions & that’s impacting the ability to develop effective strategy, as I said the other day. To think the battle over the courts is a side issue unrelated to evictions, climate change, policing, everything is... incorrect.

Periodic reminder for those of us working in or using libraries that there’s no guide to any of this. Our situation is still new and we’re all trying to figure it out, and in a lot of cases that requires totally rethinking things plus a lot of patience.

We’ll keep saying it until it’s no longer true: museum workers were already in crisis before COVID-19. Institutional responses to this moment merely underscore the inequities that pervade our current systems that rely on the labor of underpaid and undervalued workers. (5)

I don't understand how HR depts are shocked when employees object/dislike changes to proposed working conditions. Their role in capitalist systems is to find innovative ways to pay workers less in order to benefit management. If they were helping, they would be union organizers.

Yes and no? The main issue with librarianship is that we're a fundamentally leftist service staffed & managed entirely by neoliberals, so instead of being our most radical "YOU GET A BOOK, YOU GET INTERNET ACCESS, YOU GET SERVICES" we become complicit in our own marginalization

We need to talk more about *power*, what it is and how to build it. I keep finding myself in spaces where we don't address power DIRECTLY and it's just another reading circle and I just can't stand how much time and effort this wastes.
