Absolute highlight of the week - seeing and live recording Pivot. Hard to overstate how nice they were during and after the show. (+ if I ever take the subway and bump into Scott, now I know what to do for posterity).

The merritocracy trap: Children whose parents make more than $200,000 a year score about 250 points higher on the SAT than children whose parents make $40,000 to $60,000.

FTC Chairman is saying Facebook's unnecessary and (h/t ) brand-destroying combination of its three social networks will make it harder to break up the company. What's insane is Simons is publicly saying it while taking no steps to halt the integration.

We are much easier to fool than convince we've been fooled. Yahoo didn't mess up Tumblr, neither did Verizon. This was a porn site wrapped in creative paper that David Karp and Fred Wilson pumped & dumped to a desperate CEO of an aging internet firm.

A great insight from about how social media may block the learning of a skill essential for democratic citizenship: learning to get along with people you don't like. From his convo w Mark Zuckerberg
