Son's birthday, among things I got him; some of the rarest free jazz albums imaginable. To my mind unlistenable nonsense but he's all over it. He was thrilled by them. But at dinner result came Millwall had beat Bristol City away & I saw a look that no gift can replicate.

I thought unlistenable but one night I understood it. Wife's birthday we did few days in Monaco. Irish bar one night, 4 piece jazz band on. Only table left, in front of band. Aarrghg. 8th Guiness... I suddenly understood it and applauded each 'tune', nodding knowingly at them.

I love jazz but I think it peaked at Louis Armstrong. Call me Phil O'stein.

2019 is the year I got into free jazz. From a standing start I now absolutely love it. It’s chaos! Aural chaos!
