I'm extremely remiss to not mention John, the person I started the donor evaluation for. He died about four months prior to donation day. People living with HIV who are waiting for a kidney are ~2x more likely to die waiting. His death is felt by so many.

While I eventually donated to a person I didn't know, I started the process to help someone I knew who needed help. Not heroic, just uncommonly decent in these current times. Got two kidneys? You can help -> If living with HIV ->

I will always love this picture of Tracy. Meeting her and hearing her connection to donation motivated me then and motivates me now--I am very grateful she has turned personal tragedy into hope for so many others.

You know, we really could produce a podcast...I used to have one with about donation and transplantation :) it would be a lot of fun to do something to highlight TXID research and disseminate to the field!

Thrilled to see this outreach! We have not done enough to let folks know that registering as an is an act of compassion--& *inclusive* not exclusive to any identifier. The community is doing new & important work! cc:

This is the kind of work that will not just increase the number of lives saved through transplantation, but also make a topic of discussion in more communities--we can, & should, make sure every person feels included in outreach.

Inspiring and important work, Ghady! We can expand these efforts to more OPOs across the country--so much room to improve outreach, partnership, and education for about the HOPE Act, and see the impact on donor designation!

Thanks v much, ! The tough part is finding one that includes intestinal tx (likely since it is rarer)--I also checked out the Society for Transplant Social Workers list of support groups and came up empty. Maybe has a pt group for this?

Thanks for amplifying, friend! My initial search didn't come up with much, but I know there are a lot of super smart folks out there who will know more <3

Does anyone know of a good support group for intestinal transplant? I'm looking for an adult (not peds) mentor/paired support program if possible. Tagging in a few friends:
