Driven to save more lives thru changing the way we talk donation & transplant. Passionate consultant, speaker, trainer, *terrible* gardener. Just terrible.

I don’t know that the writers are going for perfect accuracy...BUT, I don’t think they knew that showing organ donation in this way could make their viewers less likely to be organ donors :( That’s an episode that could literally kill!

What if offered writers a tour & share stories that are just as dramatic *but* don’t decrease organ donor registration rates? Important to remember that negative portrayals of donation decrease registration rates...that hurts people waiting for transplant!

Our friend, the writer , is reluctant to ask so I'm asking for him: He's a candidate for a kidney transplant and needs a live donor. Are you the one? Email me for details: shafer.politico @ gmail. com. Feel free to RT.

Important note that these were tissues donated for non-transplant use. Strongly agree FAR more regulatory oversight is needed. Donated tissue should be held to same threshold of regulatory oversight whether for transplant or research/education.

Organ from donors to HIV recipients well underway in US. We need HIV-infected men & women to by becoming registered donors.

Would be great if this tweet clarified LIVING organ donation! Very confusing as it stands.

Whoa. When TV gets organ donation wrong, fewer people want to be donors. Good TV writing doesn’t have to hurt people on the waitlist.

I hear you. Does it help to know that organ procurement organizations are federally-designated non-profits? Hospitals are a different story.

I get the point, I just disagree w/ your blanket statement. I've done a lot of work in this area, and the picture is more complex.

I disagree with the premise of your question, but I very much support improvements to the transplant system. :)

Access to high quality healthcare for all is the fix. Not registering to be an organ donor only exacerbates disparity.

Medicare/Medicaid cover transplant surgeries, as do insurance companies. Prescription drug costs have more complexity in coverage.
