Basically, this is not going directly to the states. It's going to the middleman and then the state has to be the highest bidder in order to get what the middleman has in its inventory. And if there's leftovers, then the next state in line gets it.

Thanks to my colleague for making a point to ask about this at the White House coronavirus briefing

This is so important for everyone to understand. This explains why Governors say: I'm not getting the supplies I need - yet says we are sending tons of supplies: It's going from the federal govt to commercial distributors who then deliver to the highest bidder: states!

One food shortage that morbidly fascinates me: Hot dogs. Been sold out of Brooklyn grocery stores and Fresh Direct for a few weeks now. I would have thought the industrial supply was nigh limitless. I mean they're not really meat, or even *food*. They're just ... *matter*

I've been baking bread too! At first just because it was sold out and I'd prepared for Temporary Bread Outages by buying a bunch of flour and yeast. Now I'm doing it to relax, though

It just counts down the time -- but silently: There's no timer showing you "how much time is left", so I'm tempted to stare at it. When the timer's done, it plays an encouraging message (randomly picked, I wrote a few dozen) in the OS's robot voice
