A cool thing happened where a reporter looked at a paper on , and saw that I had given it a Plaudit () and so asked me for a comment. (You can follow my plaudits, FYI, at )

For this specific example, however, you can still visit the DOI's original page, from where you should be able to use the extension button in your browser's toolbar:

There are two things we can do: explicitly add support for Sci-Hub in the extension, and allow you to enter DOIs manually. Unfortunately, neither is possible at the moment, but the ideas are logged here: - -

Hi Philip, you should be able to Plaudit anything that exposes a DOI in a page's metadata in any of the formats that Google Scholar understands, listed here: Unfortunately, Sci-Hub doesn't expose the DOI in that way.

> Can someone criticize a paper? Plaudit does not record anti-endorsements (though people are, of course, free to leave comments elsewhere, e.g. using ). Plaudit's aim is to help with finding good research, similar to journals. Does that answer your questions?

That said, the concern about it possibly being too easy to endorse something is valid. We have some ideas on how to ameliorate that:

2. To prevent nepotism. If you endorse something without reading it, and it later turns out to be shoddy research, you should not be able to pretend you never endorsed it. In other words, people who endorse it should mean it.

> Can someone un-endorse a paper? No, for two reasons. 1. Because the data is public and immediately published to CrossRef Event Data, we have no control over it.

> Do you have any concerns about this being a popularity contest? Yes, although similar concerns can be raised to some extent for journal publication. The hope is that all data being public and thus open for scrutiny can help alleviate those concerns.

All data is openly published to CrossRef Event Data, so you could parse that and filter out endorsements of articles whose DOI matches some pattern (assuming SocArXiv DOI's follow a specific pattern).

There's currently no global search function, but you can find them either by: - Clicking their name when they've endorsed something. - Asking them for it. - Appending their ORCID to , e.g.

As part of an endorsement, research can optionally be marked as "robust", "clear" or "exciting". Certainly very interesting questions. If anyone is interested in researching them, all our data is open and we're happy to help.
