Help me out Death Stranders: is there a moment in the game I should persevere for if I'm over it right now? I've hiked, carried things, snuck around BTs, been shot at by MULE, used ladders and ropes, and connected two places to the Chiral Network. Can I stop?

Chapter 3 is when things start opening up. Worth sticking around until at least that bit.

I beelined thru the main quest, which is still fairly long.
Now that the dust has settled, the a-ha moments for me were
- crossing the snowy mountains with a bike, beaten by snowstoms
- heartman tragic story & various movies cameos. The rest is already hazy.
This took ~20h

Imo it gets good when you start building the road network but I already loved it at that point so maybe it just isn’t for you

I think you should carry on for a bit. You probably will end up stopping before the end, but I think it's worth getting to Chapter 5 before you do.

Basic answer: The "meat" of the game, as far as I'm concerned, is the Rocky Mountains, because that's where you have many destinations to visit and connect in a dense area with interesting routing problems to solve that inherently have more than one solution.
