See en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/行 for examples of the way this was written in the past. But I’m definitely not a seal script expert by any stretch!

We are open to any geographic focus within Asia. Course distribution will likely include: 1 introductory course; 2 mid-level courses; 1 upper-division seminar. Fifth course is usually advising senior theses in the spring.

Yeah, that there isn’t just one Buddhism is a critical one!

For high school students? Maybe I was just dumb, but I don’t think I would have made it even half way through your #2. 😝

Number three, I'd introduce the whole cosmos of Buddhas and bodhisattvas traveling across dimensions and manifesting stuff here and there. Throw in Vimalakirti, some other badasses with crazy siddhis, and hardcore bodhisattva warriors of compassion doing battle with maras.

Number two for me is the notion of meditation. Whatever you think is going on in that space (and Buddhists have a whole lot of different ideas about what exactly is going on), the whole notion that you can transform your perception of reality through practice is I think key.

I think my number one take-home point is the idea that human beings are on a path to perfection through one’s own practice. I think this is different than certain other traditions where your fate is fixed or you are dependent on the grace of a deity for salvation.

Thanks Greg Soden for the question. It’s exactly the kind of big picture question that’s on my mind right now!

If you were teaching a high school class on Buddhism, what 3-5 things would it be non-negotiable for an 11th or 12th grader to walk away knowing?

The monumental 5 vol. edition & translation of Ibn Abi Usaybiʿah's 'A Literary History of Medicine' is out, but even better, and so importantly, the whole thing is available completely free online: dh.brill.com/scholarlyediti… pic.twitter.com/EHCeEVvGul

Of course meeting virtually is better than not at all! But, if the resources are in place, then I think getting together in person is irreplaceable. I’ve seen more discussion these days about doing away with travel, but I think we underestimate the benefits of real human contact

Respectfully disagree. Skyping in makes sense if all you’re after is to hear the speaker’s talk. But, in my experience listening to the talk is WAY less interesting or productive than the face to face in-person social interaction.
