My go-to at the end of a user interview or meeting:
“Is there anything I didn’t ask today that I should have?”
The answers you get from this one question are often better than the rest of the feedback combined.

I’ve been thinking about momentum, and how we undervalue it as a society. It’s helpful to focus on your own momentum, but the real magic happens when we discover ways of making large groups work together in ways that compound progress.

Wonderful. This is something I’ve been hoping you would do. Orgs like @80000Hours and @OurWorldInData nicely compliment the Stripe mission. There are some great network effects that could come from having individuals rotate between high impact orgs with diff biz models

Counter-argument: intuition does not work for situations that we don't have lots of experience in.
Intuition is valuable to make snap judgements about character traits or integrity since it was an evolutionary advantage.

Interestingly, an important feature is also preventing a 3rd party from determining _how_ you voted.

Let me know if you need a sounding board. Editing is just as fun for me as writing.

Here are a few essays that surprised me when I wrote them. The process convinced me they were true, but I'm not sure I would have realized it otherwise:

I'm sure you've heard of it by now, but I highly recommend Substack. It provides a great interface for minimalistic writing, and the pressure of an audience has helped me stick to a regular cadence.
I spend my time looking for simple questions that have surprising answers.

We cannot predict who will be the individual that makes the next discovery, but we can design systems that make the overall group move at a much faster pace.

There’s a quote that sums up my thoughts on this:
If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together.

When a wave crashes on the shore, we do not give individual droplets credit for their ferocity. We recognize that they are carried along by forces greater than themselves, and if one droplet is to touch the land first, then it is because this is the way that things are. pic.twitter.com/3ekthrxszu

Newton’s discovery was mired in controversy thanks to the work of a competing mathematician, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Leibniz and Newton are now considered to have arrived at the theory of #calculus independently. pic.twitter.com/oijzpOpzAo

#Bitcoin is a combination of inventions that have been in development for decades: cryptography, consensus algorithms, and linked lists all existed as well-researched components. Satoshi was a gifted engineer, but his ability to combine existing principles was the true invention. pic.twitter.com/fW1oj71JU7

It’s easier to attribute these successes to a single person, rather than a group of people working toward a common purpose. We prefer to think of individuals as inventors because it appeals to our sense of ego.
