🐣Did you know mid-late June is peak pheasant nest hatch? The hen will be looking for quality BROOD HABITAT consisting of bare ground for these little fluff balls to navigate around as well as a diversity of flowers/grasses to bring in insects & provide cover for the hen & brood!

Photos are Exhibit A & B of the type of pheasant habitat and livestock forage that early summer planted cover crops can provide. This seed mix included sudangrass, millet, rape and radish planted in June. Photos were taken in mid-September. cc

Spotted my first brood of pheasants last Saturday night! And I saw a couple more broods as I drove by . This last winter and spring have demonstrated the importance of quality habitat for keeping these tough little guys around.
