Paul Graham
It just makes economic inequality more persistent if, while rich kids are being taught the recipe for wealth, you tell poor kids it's impossible to become rich except by being a crook:

I actually learned that building a monopoly is the only way to make a billion dollars from YC

I don't think y'all disagree on the facts as much as the framing and conclusions - is that right?

If you want to help someone, give them a hand. If you want to hinder them, give them an excuse. If you want to *destroy* them, give them an excuse that compels them to spit into the next hand extended to them.

made a point of how the American rich isn't like a stagnant category, it keeps changing unlike Italy. Beware of rent seekers but they are across classes

No real growth in Europe, especially old Europe. People really skeptical on tech which doesn’t help either.

"crooks" presupposes premeditated dishonesty. What the tweet says, rather, is that a certain level of wealth cannot be deserved, no matter what you do. Passed a certain cap, you're "taking", even though most rich people are merely willfully ignorant, or simply naive.

Please explain how selling your billionth widget is different in terms of “taking” than your millionth, or your hundredth? If doing the same thing just at scale, why is there a “cap” where the business no longer deserves to make the same incremental profit in the same business?

There's a difference between being rich (like millionaire) and ultra-rich (like billionaire). You can become millionaire by working but you can't become billionaire simply by working: you have to exploit people, abuse a monopoly position, do tax evasion ...
