Today my wife loses her right to live, work and do business in the UK, and our kids lose the same rights in Denmark. Some people, even family, want this to happen, but we appreciate you remembering how painful it is for those who are directly and immediately impacted by it.

The rights only expire at the end of 2020. If your wife is living in the UK, she should apply for (pre-)settlement during 2020. Then she will retain her rights for life, provided she sets foot in the UK at least once every two years.

You and the kids could establish residence in Denmark before the end of 2020. Then you'd be allowed to stay for life. However Denmark may require you to stay living there for 5 years to retain your status—they may not be as relaxed as the UK about merely setting foot there.

Why do your kids lose their rights? Are they not bi-national if you guys bi-national parents. I lose my rights in the UK but our kids retain their rights because we are bi-national. They have both UK and German citizenship.

My kids were born here but have Danish and British Nationality until 21 and then lose Danish if they haven't lived in Denmark for 1 year. Husband now has both nationalities. The loser as I have only British citizenship!

Getting them to go and live in Denmark at 18 = win/win!

solidarity, I found it overwhelming that so many in my own life did not give enough of a shit about the implications for eu families - one of my kids is adopted and not eligible for a British passport, the nights I have lain awake in total anxiety about what the future holds

I am also sorry that this has happened to so many people. It just shows how many politicians simply don't care about the fates of the people they are supposed to represent. Any family who's been feeling displaced by this would be welcome in Canada. 🇨🇦
