I’m not religious, and there was a time I’d have scoffed at reading this book, but it is thought provoking. Good reminder for me that you earn a high return on an open mind. “Our excesses are the best clues to our own poverty, and our best way of concealing it from ourselves”

If interested, it’s not really a highlight book. The whole thing has a feeling to it that requires the time spent in the book to assimilate.

I had the same initial thought when sent a copy, but also ended up enjoying it. Lesson learned: Trust Brent. I liked this passage in particular:

Not much diff in reading this vs Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintainance or Art of War, or 100 other things. Lots of religions have lots to teach us heathen atheists!

Emerson's Self Reliance really makes a man reflect: "There comes a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion" and so many more gold nuggets.
