There is a lot of evidence implicating the thalamus (esp the central thalamus) and likely brain stem structures such as the locus coeruleus. But birds do have something analogous to the c. cortex at the micro level, it just doesnt have 6+lamina. Still, yum!

Why consciousness the standard the determines whether it ethical to eat something? Do you really think birds are incapable of suffering?

Evidence points to thalamus and brainstem as structures associated with consciousness?

I keep chickens They certainly behave as if they feel basic emotions eg., fear, excitement, curiosity It seems contradictory to suggest that they ‘feel’ without consciousness So I’ve as much evidence to suggest they are conscious as I have with regard to eg.,

Is there a way to know whether any other animal is conscious? There was this thing about how even among humans it's simply assumed because they can describe their experiences to each other, right? Has this been somehow solved? 🤔

I think those interested in neurophilosophy should pay close attention to the debates about animal rights. Some arguments used by advocates of animal rights can make us rethink the ethical limitations of neuroscientific experiments.

sorry if this seems irrelevant, but a neuroscientist wrote: everything we observe (between exclusive predictions) has been neither created (+) at some point in the past nor destroyed (-) at some point in the future; which is to stop counting from zero in favor of one another
