I'd also be interested to know better the relationship between the magic numbers of 50, 25, 12 etc and see how that influenced the mining industry, esp since miners have mined at a loss in the past.

security. If there is a huge variance in fees paid by transactions, then it may encourage forks. The fees should be consistent or in excess to encourage miners to continue mining forward. What that magic number is just depends on the market. I don't have a good way to measure it

My take is that fees need too: 1) cover the cost to subsidise the mining industry. eg it's profitable and competitive. (Unless mining at a loss has an alternative utility) 2) the fees of all transactions need to have some consistency, eg people pay high fees for urgency, not

Just the original BTC subsidy. (My comment is mostly scarasm but I forgot the smiley face 🙂)

I've been waiting for the day of an ethereum hard fork to deploy a contract 🤣 would love to see it

Your telling me people are not paying 44 BTC in fees right now per block to cover the loss of subsidy and to maintain the same security budget?

I'm pretty surprised it's that close. Just off by one block. I was expecting some blocks to reward less than the reward due to miner mistakes. Bitcoin has a few of that.

This is a fun extension that involves smart contract bribery:

Enforcing base fee is tricky, but hey fun experiment

Does this mean if we reconfigured nodes to send fees to a predetermined contract address, then we could deploy eip-1559 without a hard fork? 😇eg send fees, periodically deploy and selfdestruct the contract (CREATE2).

We brought data discrepancies on #501726 to 's attention. Impressed to get a full analysis today w/ back stories: “Block 501,726, which does not contain any rewards or fees → 1.25 billion satoshis were not generated when they should...”

If your going to quote satoshi: "If you don't believe it or don' t get it, I don't have the time to try to convince you, sorry" Just go back to kettle boiling thermodynamics

Bitcoin has not survived free market capitalism for the past 11 years.... And it still doesn't... It survives in a big socialist safety net. 😒
