Keep in mind that Sculpt Mode's performance is affected both by the CPU and the GPU. A powerful CPU with integrated graphics is not the optimal setup for Blender.

If your computer can run EEVEE, Grease Pencil and other Blender features with an acceptable performance you should be able to use Sculpt Mode in 2.81 with way more than 1M vertices. If you can't, it must be a bug in Blender or a configuration error on your platform.

I've seen a lot of comments saying that Blender Sculpt Mode viewport and brush performance is unusable with more than 1M vertices. This is Blender 2.81 with 5.2M vertices on a Surface Pro 3 ( i5-4300U, 4GB, integrated graphics). It lags a little bit, but it works.

This is how I sculpted the hair in my last project. The whole model is made using the voxel remesher, without any kind of retopology. I used the Multiplane Scrape brush and the new clay brushes (available soon in Blender 2.82)

Blender 2.82 will also include regular clay brushes. This is a WIP version of the new Clay Strips brush.

All Sculpt Mode clay brushes are being rewritten from scratch, including new ones that simulate material accumulation and deformation under your finger. Blender 2.82 will truly feel like sculpting with clay.

I made this project to do a last full test of Blender 2.81 Sculpt Mode before the release. Can't wait to see what you create with it! Concept by

In dynamic mode, the brush can seamlessly change between a concave and a convex crease during the same stroke. This is extremely hard to do with regular sculpting brushes.

The Multiplane Scrape Brush also has a dynamic mode. It analyzes the curvature and hard edges of the sculpt to adjust the angle, position and strength of the trimming planes during the stroke. You can sculpt multiple times over the same edge without creating artifacts

Multiplane Scrape Brush This brush creates sharp edges with a given fixed angle by trimming the mesh with two planes at the same time. By using this brush you can sketch stylized hair and hard surface objects in seconds.

You can now change the tip shape of the Clay Strips Brush between a square and a circle with a brush property

Sculpt: Mask Slice This operator removes all masked vertices from the mesh and fills the holes in the geometry. It can also split the masked vertices into a new object.

Sculpt: Texture Mesh Filter This new option allows you to apply an alpha texture to the whole sculpt using the mesh filter. It also works with procedural 3D textures.

Sculpt Vertex Colors (the new vertex paint implementation) is now fully compatible with the new 2D texture paint brushes. These brushes have opacity, flow, density, hardness, tip shape, rotation and wet paint.

You can paint and tweak the Sculpt Face Map directly with a brush. New face maps are added automatically. You will also be able to generate the face map using the sculpt mask, mesh visibility, mesh connectivity, normals, UV islands, material slots and vertex groups.

Sculpt Face Map A new system to manage visibility in sculpt mode. You can modify the face map and hide parts of the mesh while sculpting without using masks or box selections. The face map can also be used in new features in the sculpt tools, automasking and remeshers.

Please don't try to be the first to upload a video just for the views if you are not completely sure that the information is correct. You are harming people that are trying to learn the software. Official documentation will be available when Blender 2.81 releases.

Blender 2.81 Sculpt Mode is almost ready and there are already many videos and articles about the new features. Unfortunately, most of them contain wrong information and don't explain the new sculpting workflow correctly.
