It seems like everywhere we look nationally, we're encouraged to define ourselves by what divides us. Not in Orlando. Here, we've proven there's a better way.

What makes our city unique is that the best parts of our story have yet to be written. For that reason, we can proudly declare that the state of our city is strong, unified and ready to own the future.

While we continue to see an overall reduction in crime, including a 50% decrease in residential burglaries over the last four years, we are always pushing for ways to make our community safer.

We want to give people from all walks of life the opportunity to serve our community. That's why we're launching a new recruitment initiative to bring more women, minorities and veterans into public safety careers.

But we’re nowhere close to declaring victory. That’s why in the last year alone we dedicated $3.5 million to support our regional partners in addressing homelessness.

We should be proud of the work we’ve done through our Housing First initiative. 96% of the chronically homeless individuals and veterans we’ve placed into permanent supportive housing are still housed today.

But we are willing to do our part. In the last five years, we've invested nearly $32 million to create or preserve housing options for residents at all income levels. In all, we’ve initiated the creation of 14 affordable housing developments.

Another fundamental challenge to our future is a lack of affordable housing. That’s why we must commit, as a regional community, to finding shared solutions to our affordable housing challenges. cannot fix this problem alone.

Not every resident will use every transit option, but we need a transit option for every resident. Our future depends on it. That’s why we’re standing with our residents and to invest in expanded mobility options.

One of our biggest challenges is traffic congestion. Our traffic headaches aren’t going to get better unless our community makes significant investments in transportation infrastructure.

A decade ago we declared that we were going to be the southeast's most sustainable city. Together we turned that dream into reality! We’re aiming even higher with a pledge to have 100% renewable energy for city buildings by 2030 and 100% renewable energy citywide by 2050.
