Excellent. Time doesn't exist, so we invent the metaphor of Goal-is-a-Destination, which involves pretending time is a line and for which we agree the further metaphor of an arrow. So easily assimilated by children.

1/2 Back in the game. The wonderful has a tremendous book out that I’m sure many have bought. For those who haven’t (yet) here are 4 main principles to think about when designing work by the top man. 🙏

Not much changes. I first saw such a Wheel of Jargon in the staff room when I started teaching in September 1976.

I'm smiling as study these fabulous organisers. As Barbara Tversky remarks that "we regard ideas as objects", doesn't the success of such visual strategies make enormous sense?

Nicely organised. I like your drawings too — the bold lines make for clarity.

Good progress. Do you think the two groups are sufficiently distinguished from one another? I think not quite. Maybe try a vertical thin, dotted line to mark the boundary between the two?

👇Scott’s Thinking Like A State is a must read for any govfolk out there (if you can get past the po-mo jargon about legibility and other text-centric rhetoric). Should be read along side Todd’s The End of Average. Getting beyond the technocratic impulse to standardize.
