Us millenials know how to read regexps, especially if they are multi-line and with comments. These verbose APIs are for zoomers.

i like the syntax for the doc, though. If it's not always needed for this small case, it's definitely a big help for some longer regexps that i wrote sometimes.

same as two threads accessing the same data with the same ordering semantics?

yup, and in term of fold, you have to choose an initial "accumulator" value (which should be neutral w.r.t. operation), which would be 1 in this case

That awkward moment when you need to educate your kids that your government is literally an enemy and they have to learn to lie to protect the family, like your are in the fucking Soviet Union all of a sudden.

Neat trick: if you want to compute the inverses of the roots of a polynomial, just reverse the order of its coefficients before solving. E.g. (inverses of roots of x^3 - 7*x + 6) = (roots of 6*x^3 - 7*x^2 + 1).

HN generally does not let Bitcoin articles show up on front page, but when there's $300M of Ethereum deposited in a smart contract system with a track record of fucking things up in order to achieve an unspecified outcome, that's way more relevant to the audience.

It is a Bitcoin land grab season #6. Brace yourself for newspapers first pumping cryptocurrency to your parents, and then publishing linear-scale charts showing how they all crashed once and for all.

Lower bound is gold cap (≈$8T, therefore ≈$400K/btc). Higher bound is somewhere between narrow and broad currency supply in the world, plus substitutes for parking money such as real estate, assuming BTC becomes global reserve currency.

If there was a system of apolitical money that has best quality of gold w/o any of the flaws, that would have to be bootstrapped from the ground (and not by fiat), wouldn't it look like series of turbulent waves of land-grabs, popping higher and higher each time until saturation?

Any way you read it, it's still quite motivational. This rare case when the universe gives a hint at how it works.

Ok, it's obviously clear that Bitcoin is dead. The question is: did it die *because of* covid19 or *with* covid19?

An sad but inescapable conclusion from the impressive launch of the M1 is just how much Apple squandered the potential of the iPad. The iPad has had amazing performance for a while, so why is the M1 a game changer? Because it’s finally in a machine we can actually *do things on*.

This is huge news. This is the largest asset management firm on earth. 2021 is setting up to be a year of severe supply shortages vs. demand in Bitcoin, and upside price dislocations.

At least they could keep dev’s signature alongside appstore’s. But they don’t.
