My amazing wife has been fighting R recently where it seems that breaking changes are a design goal, so much so that multiple packages are functionally incompatible due to different library requirements.

I am always amazed at the willingness of library developers to disregard ABI compatibility. Nothing discourages updates like knowing a whole bunch of your apps will have to be rebuilt, if they even build at all.

This is part of what makes system libraries so hard compared: making sure that your API is powerful, while also not making them robust enough against changes in impl details, etc. And this was a study of /java/: an environment that doesn’t have to worry about ABI compatibility

Worthwhile to give input if you can. I have had people literally argue with me over being bisexual. I was “gay and pretending to be straight” and “straight attention seeker”. Back in the early days of social media being tagged not-bi and bi-isnt-real :-/

According to the methods of this paper, no pre-T testing was done, which seems like an obvious step if you’re testing the hypothesis that administering T increases X (where X is anything):
