Today is Toni Morrison's birthday. I'm thankful of her brilliance and commitment to humanity. Imagine if more curators, professors/ everyone followed her advice and helped someone to get free. (Image- Writer of Colour via Instagram)

I like the way you’re thinking. There are some sectors experimenting w paid apprenticeships or fellowships with emphasis on people of color, but it’s still the tiny exception to the norm. Here’s one of my fav resources re diverse recruitment:

Also I am now on a plane with a group of men who are wearing giant squid hats so I feel I must put down my phone. Have a great day... and let’s keep finding opportunities to use creativity and passion to open new doors to new people. And squids.

Yup, absolutely. That’s how we hire — with specific applications and scenario-based interviews where you demonstrate ability to do the job, regardless of resume. We spend a lot more time learning what you can do vs what you’ve done. And we get GREAT diverse folks.

Interesting. I wonder if there are other forms of training—other “on the job” experiences in different sectors—that could have provided that positive influence and framing. Not other like instead of, but other like legit alternatives.

And finally, I know your original tweet was fun, friendly, and personal. My intent was in no way to attack or demean you. I saw your tweet as a helpful way to open up a conversation about equity and inclusion. I know such convos, esp on Twitter, are not easy. Thank you. /5
