I’m now really happy with the results (I hope I can blog about it soon), and thankful for a really insightful pair programming session with the rust compiler.

I was trying to get the compiler to stop complaining, when all it was trying to tell me is “Take a step back, think a bit more of how your program runs and what it’s boundaries are. I’m sure you can do better, Jeremy”.

It turns out I was trying to send data over a thread boundary in order to process it, where I now process it in the thread that gets the data, and only send the processed results in a channel once it’s done.

Today I started writing async code, fighting the Rust compiler more and more, slapping Arc<Mutex>> over Tcp connections, passing them around and being always less proud of what I was doing. In the end it still wouldn’t compile (or it would deadlock). So I took a step back.

I misunderstood “fking” in this context so I was expecting something else, but it’s the main account :(

Wery well summed up! It’s pretty funny how I went through the same overall path, ranting at first against design choices I didn’t agree with, and then taking Go for what it is: a great tool with 0 learning curve, that makes any dev productive. It’s just not a language I enjoy. twitter.com/nick_r_cameron…
