A common experience nowadays is carefully thinking of a response to something somebody says only for them to respond to me as if what I said was extremely superficial and missing what I felt was the point.

A lot of the time I just laugh it off, but I worry that not being on the same wavelength could leave me with a lack of feedback on my beliefs. (And how do we truly know if we're being understood or not.)

Could it be because of the implicit context present? That you know how changing x can impact the rest of the parameters in the problem space but your audience dont?
