Police and Emergency Services are currently dealing with a distressed female on a footbridge over the A1. The A1 southbound is closed and a diversion is in place with traffic coming off at Fawdon. Please be patient and allow the Emergency Services to resolve the incident.

We're reminding people about the dangers of the sea as they head to the coast ☀☀ It follows the rescue of 2 teenage girls today, who were swimming at S Shields & got into difficulty. Coastguard & RNLI brought them to safety. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.
